This piece is an exploration of the depictions of women in Classical and Shakespearean texts in conversation with modern female songwriters. The literary evidence surrounding ancient Greek poetry, mythology, and theater is lacking, and the sources that exist are primarily written by men. This piece explores the manner in which women are portrayed by these men, the way female characters are seen by their male counterparts in the world of their play, and demonstrates the universality of their experiences through modern music.
